Hi, we’re Kay and Eirini and our cat Socks.

We’re going through an unexpected and stressful situation after our home was affected by flooding. What started as a sudden incident quickly turned into significant water damage across multiple rooms, including bedrooms, the bathroom, hallway, and storage areas.

Around 200 litres of water were extracted, but we’ve since been told that the carpets and underlay are completely ruined, the laminate flooring has swollen and bubbled, and moisture has spread into walls, doors, and furniture. There are already signs of mould, strong odours, and persistent damp that make the flat uncomfortable and difficult to live in.

We’ve been running heating and a dehumidifier 24/7, ventilating constantly, and doing everything we can to prevent further damage — but the humidity remains high, the air feels heavy, and the smell continues to worsen. We’re also worried about hidden moisture in walls, insulation, and the structure of the flat, which feels like more than a simple surface repair.

This situation has been emotionally exhausting and heartbreaking. We love our home, and seeing it in this condition has been incredibly upsetting.

We’re doing our best to stay strong and manage the situation responsibly, but we’re now facing unexpected costs — including damaged belongings, increased electricity bills from continuous drying, potential temporary living arrangements, and replacing essential items that may not be salvageable.
