Hi all, on September 1st during Hurricane Ida, the lower level of our NYC apartment severely flooded due to the storm. It was the 4th flood we’ve had in the past 2 months, and by far the worst. There was over 2 feet of water when we left, covering the outlets and shorting the electric.

The week prior we had flooded during Hurricane Henri and had already lost a lot of our belongings. Our renters insurance will not cover anything since it was a flood and the insurance was not specifically flood insurance.

Due to negligence on the part of the property management company, the first flood was never correctly repaired and after testing we found there was mold both in the drywall and in the air.

There are 5 of us and 3 cats that live in the apartment and we are currently staying in a hotel while trying to figure out next steps.

The property management company has yet to make any real repairs, so as of now we don’t know if/when we can move back in to our apartment, or if we will have to find new housing.

Any money raised will go toward hotel/housing expenses, replacement of furniture and other damaged items, and any moving expenses.
