Help us recover from our home robbery

Donation protected
On August 7th my mother and I’s home was broken into. They attempted to break into the shop below our house but failed, leading them to kick our door in and invaded our home instead. My whole family feels intensely violated, unsafe, and heartbroken. They stole my cameras, parts for a custom computer I’m building for school, my entire jewelry collection, makeup and perfume, clothes, a credit card, cash, and a hand sander. It's hard to estimate the exact price of everything we lost, but nothing can replace the sentimental value lost.

If you don't know me my name is Mahdi Alima Tiry-Garcia and I am 21 years old. I am an aspiring filmmaker and am in my second year of community college working towards transferring to a four-year school to get a Bachelors in Film. My mom is a single parent of three, meaning we've always had a lower income but we've always been able to get what we need. Ever since I was in 7th grade when we were forced to move out of our childhood home to Vallejo, we've had to commute for an hour with traffic into SF every day. We've lived in Vallejo for about 8 years now. It’s not ideal but it's what we can afford. Life in the Bay Area is expensive and we manage enough but recently we've been struck especially hard by life's challenges. Before COVID my family had been saving to move closer to SF where my mother and brother work. Lockdown took away our source of income and therefore drained all our savings, making it impossible to move. Once again we managed to keep going. My siblings have now moved out, my mother and I have been trying to save for moving, and I am trying to save for college. I had saved a good amount till recently when both our cats got sick, causing us to spend much of our savings to make sure they are okay. The thought of losing my cats crushed me as I love them like children. They are doing much better and my anxiety had just returned to a normal level till my mother called me when I was at a friend's house to tell me we were robbed. Without my cameras and computer, it makes film school impossible for me to get the education and experience I need. As well we would like to attempt to replace the rest of the items stolen from us maybe even move out and try to move on from this violating experience. Anything helps - a dollar or 10, sharing with your friends. Anything, so we aren't forced to scrape the bottom of the barrel and start all over again. Thank you all for all the love and support during this time

Sincerly,
Mahdi Alima Estrella Tiry-Garcia
