My wife Julia and I are only a few years into owning our first home, and the past few months have been a whirlwind of new responsibilities and unexpected challenges. I work freelance, so our income can be tight and unpredictable, which makes every home repair feel even more daunting.
Recently, we started noticing strange burbling in our bathroom toilets, and then, whenever we ran the dishwasher or laundry machine, our bathtub would suddenly fill with sewage. It was alarming and stressful, and we knew we had to act fast to prevent a bigger disaster.
We called a plumber, and after a thorough inspection, we learned that our pipes were completely clogged. To make matters worse, the drain cap needed to clear the blockage was missing, making it impossible to jet or root out the clog without an emergency fix. The repairs were necessary to prevent flooding and restore our home's plumbing, but the cost was overwhelming—especially for a last-minute expense. (Between digging up the front yard to install the drain cap, the actual jetting of the pipes, and the initial consultation, we're looking at slightly over $10,000 at the end of the day.)
This is our home, and we've invested a lot of time, money, sweat, and love into it. Any amount of help covering this sudden expense would relieve a great deal of financial stress for our household. It would allow us to focus on work and the ongoing stresses of daily life, and give us peace of mind knowing we can maintain our plumbing and prevent future emergencies.
We (and our gorgeous, perfect pets, Bobbie and Frankie) are grateful for any support from our community, and we'd be so appreciative of your help with this unexpected, massive challenge.
