Update 8/17: I had to return to the ER for complications at the femoral wound site. I unfortunately have developed blood clots, this time left side. I am already on treatment for ones they found in my right leg last week so the Dr is consulting with hematology to decide what the next step for treatment should be.
On August 7th, my life changed in an instant. A severe asthma attack, made much worse by black mold in our apartment, sent me into full respiratory failure. After being rushed to the ER, I spent hours fighting for my life before finally being placed on life support and ECMO, a major surgery that kept me alive. The trauma of that day still lingers, and my recovery is far from over. I am now home with my three sons—Braxton (12), Cooper (10), and Jameson (8)—temporarily living with my mom because our apartment remains unsafe and uninhabitable. All of our belongings are still trapped inside, and our family is separated from our two beloved cats, French Fries and Olive, who are in a temporary foster home. Our dog Lola is with us, providing comfort, especially to Cooper, who relies on her for support. French Fries, the family emotional support animal, and Olive, our affectionate kitten, are both struggling with the upheaval and uncertainty.
My boys have shown incredible strength and compassion, helping me move around the house and caring for me as I recover. They have faced the terrifying reality of almost losing their mom, and now they are doing everything they can to help me heal. I recently accepted a new GM position, but the timing of my medical crisis means I am forced to return to work on very light duty and severely reduced hours, despite my doctors’ advice. I cannot risk losing this job, as it is my family’s only way to move forward. The challenges are overwhelming as we struggle to cover basic living expenses like utilities and phones, as well as the urgent need to find a safe, stable home for our family and pets. A new home would mean everything to us—a place to recover, to be together, and to start fresh after so much trauma. Your support will help us secure housing, cover essential bills, and keep our family together during this critical time. We are deeply grateful for any help as we work toward healing and stability.
