Help Us Recover After Rollover Wreck

Donation protected
My daughter, Robin (almost 4 & is autistic), and I (14 weeks pregnant) were in a rollover accident on May 28th around 9am. We were on our way to a doctor's appointment when we were hit. I had been sitting at a stop light and began to move forward once it turned green. The party that hit us ran the red light and was speeding when the impact occurred. This caused us to roll as they hit us on the front passenger door. We fully rolled and landed on the passenger side of the car. Robin, our kiddo whose birthday is in June, was in the rear passenger seat, and I was driving.

The accident left me hanging from the top of the driver's seat until our momentum stopped, and I was able to unbuckle myself and lower myself to the passenger seat. Fortunately, we both remained conscious throughout the ordeal. I had to remove Robin from her car seat and was fortunate to have individuals on the scene help us escape through the driver's side window before the firetruck and EMS arrived. We were transported to the hospital via ambulance to be checked out after the wreck.

Miraculously, we have all walked away with minor injuries. Robin had a minor bruise from the car seat that is no longer visible. She also handled the whole situation like a champ, hardly crying and only really fussing when they touched her to evaluate her. The baby is in great condition with no current concerns. Finnaly I have been left the worst for wear, with lots of bruising, whiplash, and overall muscle soreness.

We are currently without a vehicle while the insurance does the paperwork. However, we have already been told that the car is likely totaled. Now, seeing the impact location on the car, we are positive that it will be totaled. Unfortunately, Michigan is a "No-Fault Insurance" state, meaning that the individual who hit us' insurance will not cover anything on our behalf.

We do have our own insurance through Progressive for both Collision and Comprehensive, as well as GAP coverage through Carvana (where we purchased the vehicle). However, these do not cover a rental and may leave us without any leftover to use as a down payment on a new vehicle. We simply won't know more until the insurance has completed their work.

At this time, I am also still trying to recover from being laid off last year from my job that paid $6,000 a month and still owes me over $30,000 that I will likely never see, as they have been sued by a former investor and shut down. As a graphic designer, I have managed to pull some clients as a freelancer; however, I am currently making less than $1,500/month. Due to my pregnancy and chronic illnesses, it has been hard to find a local job at this time.

My husband is also unable to work due to the multiple screws and metal hardware in his left leg from multiple surgeries on his knee and ankle, as well as his own chronic illnesses, including a precancerous stomach condition. He is the full-time caregiver of our daughter Robin and does some contracted work from home; however, it doesn't make much more than $50/month at this time.

Right now, we are looking for help with a rental so that we can continue to make it back and forth to our medical appointments for Robin and the pregnancy. As we move forward, we may have to request additional help with the replacement of the vehicle itself. We would very much like to replace Robin's car seat with the same 5-point system and brand that protected her so well. This will be reimbursed by the insurance company, but it must be purchased first.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story, for sharing it with others, and for any donations in advance.

Your kindness and support mean the world to us, and we're grateful for every bit of help. We're looking forward to getting back on our feet and moving forward, and with your help, we can make that happen.

Thank you again for being part of our journey - it truly makes a difference!
