Hi everyone, Today, the fire department inspector came to check the apartment after weeks of dealing with mold, sewage smells, ceiling leaks, and unsafe conditions. What he told us has shaken me to my core: “This apartment is illegal and uninhabitable. You can’t live here.” Let that sink in. I’ve been raising my daughters here. I’ve been fighting to stay afloat while living in conditions that are now confirmed to be not just unsafe, but unlawful. We were renting an illegal unit, and now that the truth is out, we’re being forced to leave. The inspector is waiting to hear back from the landlord before officially filing the complaint, but the damage is done: we have no choice but to leave. We don’t have a set deadline yet, but we’re living on borrowed time.
