Hello friend.
It’s Ted, Stephen, and Jonathon here, and we first want to thank you for taking the time to read about our project! As you consider your involvement in this campaign, please know that you are valued by us and that this would not be possible without our God-given community.
Now, if you are wondering what this project actually is, read on!
I (Steve), Ted, and Johnathon intend to record an EP of new hymns. Now I know what you’re thinking: new hymns? Is there such a thing? And the answer may surprise you.
All over the United States and Canada you will find people writing hymns most people will never hear. In fact, there is an annual conference put on by “The Hymn Society” where these artists come together to be encouraged in their musical endeavors.
One such artist is my brother, Rev. Dr. David Bjorlin. David is a pastor and seminary professor with a unique ability to put practical theology into poetic forms. His songs speak to the justice, beauty, and healing we all yearn to experience in our daily lives.
While David is a talented hymnist, his writings have yet to be discovered by the average person. That’s where we come in.
Our vision is rather simple: to record an EP (3-4 songs) of David’s hymns. With your help, we will use these recordings to promote the important act of communal singing wherever it occurs. As The Hymn Society puts it, “We believe that the holy act of singing together shapes faith, heals brokenness, transforms lives, and renews peace.”
A professional recording of just one song can easily cost 10,000 dollars. Sound like a lot? It is. Luckily, Jonathan Swanson has agreed to donate his talent and time to this project. His generosity will allow us to record our album at an expected rate of $1,250 per song. Costs include the payment of musicians, artwork, marketing, and a small financial gift to Jonathon Swanson for his time.
We hope you can partner with us, as we believe a lot of good will come from this EP. Please know that we are grateful for any amount.
With Love,
Ted, Stephen & Jonathon
