Petey arrived frightened, alone, and in terrible pain. He was a stray, surviving on his own, with a catastrophic injury that told a silent story of suffering—his tail was broken completely at the base. The damage was so severe that there was no feeling left, no muscle control, no chance for it to ever heal. It simply hung behind him, a constant reminder of what he had endured.
We rushed Petey to the veterinarian immediately. The diagnosis was heartbreaking but clear: the nerves were irreparably damaged, and amputation was the only way to end his pain. Injuries like this don’t happen easily. The veterinarians explained that this type of trauma is most often caused when a cat’s tail is violently pulled or when a cat is lifted by the tail. However it happened, Petey suffered immensely—and he suffered alone.
Miraculously, despite the severity of his injury, Petey still had bowel and bladder control. It was a small blessing in an otherwise devastating situation. He underwent surgery, and as he began to wake and recover, something remarkable became clear: Petey still trusted people.
Even after everything he had been through, Petey leans into gentle hands. He purrs. He seeks comfort. His spirit was not broken.
Petey’s surgery and follow-up care came at a significant cost, but leaving him to suffer was never an option. This sweet, affectionate boy was worth every single step we took to save him. We are asking for help to recover these unexpected medical expenses so we can continue saying “yes” to animals like Petey—animals who have known pain but still choose love.
Petey survived the unimaginable. With your support, he can now move forward into a future free from pain, filled with kindness, safety, and hope.
