My long-term boyfriend, our pets, and I recently made the big move from New York to Georgia, hoping for a fresh start, closer to family, and better weather as we approach retirement. We were excited to settle into our new home and begin this next chapter together. Unfortunately, our moving experience has taken an unexpected and stressful turn.

After hiring a professional moving company, we were shocked when the final bill was much higher than the original quote—only revealed after our belongings were already loaded and placed in their PA storage. Now, all of our furniture and essentials are being held until we can pay the difference. We’re currently sleeping on an air mattress, trying to save every dollar to get our things back, but it’s a struggle to cover both daily living expenses and the sudden moving costs. This has made it nearly impossible to truly settle in and feel at home.
