Help Us Rebuild the Back Patio for Our Veterans & Community

Bastards Canteen is more than a restaurant, it's a hub for Veterans, families, and the Downey community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we built our Back Patio as a safe, outdoor space where people could come together when indoor dining was shut down. What started as a necessity quickly became something much greater, a home for our Veterans.

This patio became the heart of our VetWorks events, where we've proudly connected over 1,000 Veterans to essential resources like housing, employment opportunities, and nonprofit services. It's been a powerful space for healing, community-building, and purpose all rooted in unity and service.

Unfortunately, we’ve recently been forced to take down the patio due to non-compliance with updated city regulations. We built it with our own funds during one of the toughest economic times in our lives, with no outside help or reimbursement. Now, to meet the city's requirements and rebuild it to code, we’re facing over $60,000 in city-imposed fees, plus an estimated $50,000–$60,000 in construction costs.

That’s why we’re launching this GoFundMe with a goal of $125,000 to cover all permitting, design, legal, and construction expenses so we can bring back this vital space.
