Please help East Maui Animal Refuge Recover From Hurricane Lala ❤️

We have lost roofs. We have lost fences. We have lost trees. Every enclosure was soaked… but we did NOT lose a single animal, and we have not lost hope!

Hurricane Lala hit East Maui Animal Refuge hard.

We have experienced flooding throughout the property, including inside the cattery. Sections of roofing were torn away. Trees have fallen onto buildings and damaged roofs. Fences were destroyed by falling trees, and countless trees came down throughout the property.

Both sides of the refuge experienced significant flooding, and all of our animal enclosures were soaked.

But through all of the destruction, there is one thing we are incredibly grateful for:

Every single animal made it safely through the storm. ❤️
That is what matters most.

Now comes the long road to recovery.

East Maui Animal Refuge is home to hundreds of rescued animals who depend on us every single day. Even after a hurricane, they still need food, clean and safe enclosures, shelter, veterinary care, and daily care.

We cannot simply stop while we rebuild.

Our Initial Recovery Goal: $50,000
We are setting an initial fundraising goal of $50,000 to help us begin repairing and rebuilding after Hurricane Lala.

We are still assessing the full extent of the damage and obtaining repair estimates, so we know the ultimate cost of recovery may be significantly higher. But we don’t want to wait to ask for help while our animals and our refuge continue to deal with the aftermath.

Our immediate recovery needs include:

Roof & Building Repairs
Repairing damaged roofs and structures so our animals and supplies can remain protected from the elements.

Fencing & Enclosures
Replacing and repairing fences and animal enclosures damaged by falling trees and flooding.

Fallen Tree & Debris Removal
Clearing the many trees and branches that came down throughout the property and around buildings and fences.

️ Flood Cleanup & Restoration
Cleaning, drying, repairing, and restoring areas affected by flooding.

Animal Supplies & Bedding
Replacing materials and supplies damaged by the storm and keeping every animal comfortable and cared for throughout the recovery.

Emergency Repairs & Materials
Covering the many unexpected repairs and materials that come with recovering from a major storm.

Every Dollar Helps Us Rebuild
A $50,000 goal may sound like a lot, but caring for a refuge of this size means that storm damage adds up quickly.

And this is just our initial recovery goal.

If we reach $50,000, we will continue putting every additional dollar toward repairs, rebuilding, strengthening our infrastructure, and providing care for the animals.

If you can donate, please know that your contribution is going directly toward helping us recover and continue caring for the animals who depend on us.

Whether you can give $5, $25, $100, or more, every donation matters.

And if you’re unable to donate, please share this fundraiser. Sharing it with your friends, family, coworkers, and community may reach someone who is able to help.

❤️ We Need Our Community
We are incredibly grateful that every animal survived Hurricane Lala.

Now we need our community to help us make sure they continue to have a safe place to live.

We are also preparing for another storm expected to impact Maui this weekend, so while we begin cleaning up from Lala, we are also preparing to protect the animals from whatever comes next.

Please keep East Maui Animal Refuge, our animals, and everyone working to care for them in your prayers.

We made it through Lala. Every animal survived.

Now we need your help to rebuild.

Thank you for standing with East Maui Animal Refuge. Thank you for donating, sharing, praying, and helping us continue this work.

For the animals. Always. ❤️

For clarity of purpose and intent, I am absorbing the technical debt of setting up this campaign in order to help the East Maui Animal Refuge recover from damage sustained during Hurricane Lala. My mother lives and works on the property along with her husband, who owns the rescue. My sole involvement in this endeavor is to expedite the care and comfort of my family and the animals who have met with misadventure in Maui. I will be handing off this entire campaign to the volunteer staff at the rescue, and will continue to offer technical guidance pro-bono as required.

Thank you so very much for your care.
