My fiancé and I have always tried to make the best of what we have, but this year has tested us in ways we never expected. I am disabled and unable to work, and my fiancé does her best at a low-income job, but saving money has always been a struggle. Recently, we were blindsided by a large utility bill from PCAP and Met-Ed—one we never received any notice about. Paying it wiped out what little savings we had managed to put aside.

On top of that, we were in a car accident that forced us to put a down payment on a new vehicle and cover ongoing upkeep costs. These unexpected expenses have left us barely able to afford rent and groceries, let alone think about our future. We had hoped to get married in October and maybe take a small honeymoon, but now even those dreams feel out of reach. Our biggest hope is just to survive and keep a roof over our heads.
