Our home and our community on the North Shore of Kauaʻi were hit incredibly hard by Hurricane Lowell.

We are incredibly grateful that our loved ones are safe, but a lot of us are facing a long road to recovery.

Everyone lost work and their wages. Including us. Many homes are without electricity or hot water, with damaged windows and roofs, destroyed appliances, and properties covered in fallen trees, mud, and debris, also including us. Some families in Wainiha are living in flooded, mold-filled homes and dealing with septic waste, while facing damage they simply don’t have the equipment or financial means to clean up themselves. People are doing everything they can with whatever resources they have, but there is still an overwhelming amount of work ahead. With the possibility of another storm and landslides, getting these areas cleared is becoming even more urgent.

We are in need ourselves. Yet helping the community every step of this journey. Day in and day out. Anyway we can.

Our priority right now is helping our community.

The people of this valley have been the ones showing up for each other. While organizations have begun bringing in food, water, cleaning supplies, and other basic necessities, the larger structural and heavy-equipment needs are still largely falling on the community itself with very little to no government help. Our community is doing what we can with our own vehicles, tools, time, and resources because there simply isn’t aid available to us to handle the large scale of destruction.

We are raising funds to purchase an excavator that can permanently remain here in the valley for essential community use. Having this equipment locally would allow us to respond to the current devastation and help families who cannot afford the heavy equipment needed to safely clear their properties.

An excavator can cost $70,000–$80,000 or more. Our goal is to raise enough for a substantial down payment, fuel, and the initial costs of getting the machine here and operational.
