Help Us Bring Justice and Restore our Belongings

Hi friends, it has been too long since we have connected with you all. Through trying to navigate a reasonable solution, to figuring out our short term plans and how to proceed, and then the flood- it has been an overwhelming time to say the least.

As many of you remember; we were surprisingly locked out of our beloved coffee and provision shops on the night of June fourth.

While we feel that the self help eviction was an egregious and illegal act, we’ve been quietly trying to come to terms with our previous landlord and reach an agreement.

However, we have only to be met with harassing texts and immaturity that have helped us come to the conclusion that we now must act.

To clarify a few things- our agreement was to pay on the fifth. We received a text on the 4th asking for the title to our car in order to stay, shortly after we received a text stating "we are done with you". We called the police to try and mediate but we were met with nothing but difficulty from the landlord.

The time has come for our actions to speak louder than words, that action is not violence or destruction but through the civil process. The time has come to file a suit against what we perceive as unfair business practice, breach, destruction of property, and others. A destruction of a community built around a small street corner where everyone was equal and loved. We all came together to create our little community and it was taken from us.

Our closing has been an anxiety driven rollercoaster for us. Our livelihood has been sold, given away, destroyed, or trashed… we don’t know what has happened to all of our equipment or personal items that were left in the stores when we were inexcusably and without warning evicted, including heirlooms generations old and with inconceivable value.

We worked extremely hard to build what we did, reinvesting everything in the business.

For a while we tried to continue our wholesale business- owing a lot of thanks to Sovereign Remedies for allowing us use of their kitchen, but ultimately without our equipment and the resources we invested in, we were unable to sustain.

We have covered a lot of legal fees already- asking for help from friends and family. Even before the flood we were having difficulty figuring out how to continue to escalate our situation, and now- we have significant damage to mitigate and we are unable to continue to fight on our own.

So we are here to ask for your help and support. Support to right a wrong and let good prevail over manic evil.

To bring a lawsuit is unfortunately a very costly endeavor, but it is our only option at this point.

The community that we created hasn’t been destroyed, though it may never be the same.

We are asking you- our community- if you have an extra cup of coffees’ worth of money or the money you would have spent on a slice of cake, please contribute to our gofundme. We still have obligations to those in the community so it is important that we begin litigation so we are able to fulfill those obligations to our community, the people we employed, and the small businesses we helped support.

We are not tone deaf to the things that have happened to Asheville in the last month and have watched as people have come together to solve unimaginable problems we never thought we would see. We are unfortunately on a timeline and we must take action now. That being said- if you do not align with our gofundme, please consider donating to another cause that is in great need. Sovereign Remedies is in need of help, Happy Dirt is helping farmers rebuild, and many many others.

We miss you all- we miss baking and slinging coffee, and we miss our little corner where we met, talked, and connected over each others lives. Hopefully we will see you all again soon.
