Amber, Scott and Emma Bush lost our home in the CARR Wildfire of 2018) the Firenado. The past three years, we’ve been living in a travel trailer, trying to protect our property and rebuild our lives. We put our trust in a contractor to rebuild our home, instead, all our money was taken and the house wad left unfinished and unlivable. It’s been a long, exhausting journey—one that’s tested our hope and strength every single day.
After years of fighting, the State Attorney General’s office is now taking the contractor to court to stop the abuse of families like ours. Instead of making things right, the contractor is suing us out of retaliation for our complaint to the CSLB, claiming we owe him more money, he is trying to take our home away. We’re still living in the trailer next to our half-built house, and our house remains incomplete, we’re determined to fight for our disabled daughter Emma to have a home to live in after all this time. We are not the only ones who have suffered at the hands of bad contractors after a natural disaster, and we are fighting for accountability and justice in our community for every family that has lost everything and had to start over so that this type of suffering will stop.
We’re asking for help so we can fight back and stand for what's right, protect other families from going through the same pain, and finally finish our home so we can have some sense of normalcy again. Any help or support would mean everything to our family. Thank you for reading our story and for standing with us during this difficult time.
