Help Us Help My Cousin Rebuild His Life After the Earthquake
On August 10, everything my cousin had spent more than 22 years building was taken away in a matter of moments. He worked for 22 years to pay for his home, a place that represented years of sacrifice, hard work, dreams, and the hope of building a safe future. And then, in the middle of the earthquake, he and his wife had only seconds to escape. They made it out hand in hand, just in time. Behind them, their home was collapsing. They walked through the streets carrying nothing but the clothes they were wearing. No belongings. No home. No time to go back for the things they had spent years working for. Everything they owned was suddenly gone. It is heartbreaking to imagine walking away from the place you called home, knowing that 22 years of work and sacrifice have disappeared behind you. This tragedy has deeply touched our family.
We are incredibly grateful that my cousin and his wife are alive and safe, and we know that no material possession is more valuable than their lives. But we also know how overwhelming it is to face the reality of starting again from zero.
