Help us rebuild after our moving nightmare
If you found this from my viral moving video, hi. I genuinely never expected our story to reach this many people.
Our move happened during an already incredibly difficult stretch. I had recently been laid off from a salaried creative job I’d held for three years as the industry shifted increasingly toward AI, and shortly afterward my girlfriend was involved in a serious car accident. We were already stretched extremely thin financially when we had to make this move. Then our belongings arrived like what you saw in the video.
We documented approximately $12,000 in damaged and destroyed belongings. All My Sons offered us $1,400 to settle the claim, but accepting it required signing a release of liability. We declined. We have received no settlement money.
And yes, as quite a few commenters helpfully pointed out, we “look poor.” We are. That’s sort of the problem. We don’t have thousands of dollars sitting around to replace furniture and belongings that took years to accumulate. Some things can wait. Some things can’t.
After people kept asking how they could help, I put it to a vote, and 67% of you told me to make a GoFundMe. So, reluctantly, here it is. There is absolutely no expectation to donate. If you’re struggling too, please keep your money. Watching, sharing, and talking about what happened helps us enormously.
Money raised will go toward replacing what was destroyed and getting our home functional again. I’ll be transparent about what we’re replacing and what it costs.
And if you’ve had a similar experience with All My Sons, please contact me. I’m collecting other customers’ experiences and documentation. I don’t know where that will ultimately lead, but after seeing how many people have already come forward, I think those stories deserve to be documented too.
Thank you for caring about two strangers and their absolutely demolished pile of furniture.
