We are one of the families affected by the flooding at Otake Camp. Although we managed to get out with all of our clothes and cars, we lost everything else. The water rose so quickly that in a matter of minutes it was at the door of my 4Runner. We're lucky to have left when we did, because it could have been much worse for us. I feel incredibly grateful that my family is safe and that we have a place to stay, especially knowing that some families have nowhere to go right now.
As we start to rebuild, our biggest need is to replace the main furniture for our kids—beds and dressers—so they can feel comfortable and settled again. We also hope to replace our own furniture and get some basic school necessities for the kids. The rest, we'll work on as we go, taking it one step at a time.
I would really like to thank everyone who's helping on site and donating. Every little bit helps and truly makes a difference for us. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and support as we get back on our feet.
