A Frontline ICU Doctor Who Saved Lives Now Needs Help To Survive. I spent over a year and a half in the ICU during COVID, holding the hands of patients as they took their last breaths, working nonstop as the world fell apart around us.
Eventually, the weight of it broke me. I developed severe PTSD and had to step away from medicine just to survive mentally.
Not long after, my mother—who was battling breast cancer—began to decline. I chose to spend that time with her, knowing I wouldn’t get it back. She passed away at the end of 2024.
When I tried to return to work, everything had changed. My time away, combined with mobility issues that require me to use a cane and scooter, made it nearly impossible to be hired again. After a year of trying, doors kept closing.
Then things got worse.
I ended up in the ICU for six weeks because I couldn’t afford a blood thinner I need to prevent life-threatening clots. I developed a clot in my inferior vena cava, causing kidney damage again.
At the same time, we lost our car while trying to hold things together financially. My husband, who also has chronic health issues, hasn’t been able to find work without transportation.
Right now, we are struggling just to cover basic living expenses.
We are not asking for a handout—we are asking for a chance to stabilize. A few months of support would allow us to secure remote work for me and sustainable employment for my husband so we can rebuild our lives.
After everything—after the lives I fought to save, after losing my mother, after fighting to stay alive myself—I never imagined we would end up here.
Any support you can offer—whether financial or advice on finding work—would mean the world to us and help us get back on our feet.
If you know of any remote opportunities or resources that could help, please reach out. Thank you for considering helping our family during this difficult time.
Any support, no matter the size, truly means everything to us. And if you can’t donate, sharing this helps more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
