As most of you know, we were devastated by the July 4th flood. Myself, my mother, my girlfriend, and my two boys (9 and 7) are now out of a place to live and without transportation. To make matters worse, we didn’t have flood insurance because we never thought this was possible.

Friday morning, I woke up at 4:00 AM to my house flooding and my kids screaming. It was up to my neck within 10 minutes. I lifted everyone onto the roof. Both cars were swept away, but we’re alive.

Now, it’s time to start cleaning and rebuilding our lives. We lost just about everything we owned, including clothes and groceries.

I hesitated to ask for help because I do have some survivor's guilt. My heart hurts for the victims and families that have lost their lives. I just can’t believe that this has happened to our small, tight-knit community.
