On November 28th, I received a phone call no one ever expects or wants to receive—my home was on fire. I left work and rushed home, only to find my street blocked off. I parked at the church and ran the rest of the way, terrified for my family. I saw my sister but not my niece and nephews, and for a moment, I feared the worst. Thank God, everyone made it out unharmed.

When I arrived, our home was gone—nothing but ash and frame remained, and the fire department was cleaning up to leave. Everything we owned was inside, including precious memories of our mother and our family’s history, all gone in a flash. We did not have insurance, and now we are left with nothing but each other and the hope to rebuild.
