This is to remind everyone you can do anything you put your heart and mind to. We are now homeless. Our apartment burnt down last night. God is good and will turn everything to good. All I care about is we are all safe. Currently, I have a 4-month-old and a 2-year-old, and two cats. We were able to escape the third floor via ladder with the fire department. I noticed the alarm around 4 am, put our baby on the deck to avoid smoke inhalation, I asked my husband to please take our son to the back and shut the door from smoke. Then started to clog sinks and tub, filling them completely with water. I wet a rag and tied it around my head as I readied. When we went to go out the door, we couldn't. I called police around 4:09 am because I looked through the peephole and couldn't see the exit anymore. I knew we needed rescue and to get down from the third floor. Please don't ever wait to leave until you see or smell smoke. Don't grab anything but your family.
On top of all this, I have colon cancer. Surgery and treatment are less than a month away. It recurred for the fourth time four months postpartum in May 2024. I had 19 surgeries and around 40+ treatments at that point in my life. Since my rediagnosis two years ago, I've had 3 surgeries and 7 treatments. The only reason I stopped treatments was because of our blessing, miracle baby number two. My children are my why, as well as helping others realize their innate strength and talents.
We have nothing but our lives and the clothes on our backs. Baby boy is still dancing, singing, and happy, and our girl slept through it all. Please hug your family, friends, and love hard on your loved ones for us today. You can do whatever you put your heart and mind to. Any support means the world to us as we try to survive, rebuild, and give me the chance to be there for my children. There is still so much fight ahead for us all. Keep up the good fight.
