Aloha, my name is Harmony Shelton, and my partner is Burke “Boi” Kamauoha Jr. In the early morning hours of March 20, 2026, our lives were turned upside down when the Kona Low storm brought devastating flooding to our home in Lai’e, Hawaiʻi. We weren’t home at the time, and by the time we returned, everything we had worked so hard for was gone. Our home was destroyed. Our vehicles were completely flooded and declared a total loss. Tools, yard equipment, and irreplaceable sentimental items were all lost to the floodwaters, including our generators, which are our sole source of power for off-grid living. We had been in the process of building our container home, but the flooding covered the flooring in thick silt, leaving us needing to start over. Our ʻohana who were there that night described how quickly it all happened—the water rose to nearly six feet, with a powerful current that made it impossible to escape safely. By some miracle, no lives were lost, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
Since then, we’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support of our ʻohana and friends. Many have shown up with heavy equipment which helped us clear silt, repair the land, and haul away what was destroyed. Their aloha has carried us through our darkest moments. Now, we are humbly asking for your kōkua. We are trying to rebuild—not just our home, but our sense of normalcy and stability. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward restoring our home, replacing essential items, and helping us continue to care for and steward our ʻāina. Your support means more than words can express. Your generosity brings us hope, strength, and the ability to move forward.
