My wife and I have always prided ourselves on being self-sufficient, working hard to provide for our family and never wanting to burden others. For over 20 years, I ran my own business and worked as a mechanic, while my wife restored antiques and created beautiful woodworking projects. Together, we raised four wonderful children and built a life filled with love, hard work, and cherished memories.

Two weeks ago, everything changed when a fire swept through our home. In a matter of hours, we lost nearly everything we had spent decades building—our tools, our keepsakes, and the means to support ourselves. The fire took every tool we owned, from those I used for car restorations to the equipment my wife relied on for her furniture projects. We also lost precious mementos of our children and grandchildren, and heartbreakingly, my wife’s beloved dog. While we are grateful to have escaped with our lives, the loss has been overwhelming.

Since the fire, we have done our best to clean up and start over, but our resources are exhausted. We received some help from the Red Cross and a few generous neighbors, but with both of our incomes gone, we are struggling to rebuild. My disability retirement is now our only source of support, and it simply isn’t enough to restore our home or replace the tools we need to work. Asking for help is not easy for us, but we are at a point where anything would make a difference. We are deeply grateful for any support as we try to rebuild our lives and regain our independence.
