Help Us Rebuild After Apartment Flood

In the early morning of July 11, 2025, a severe flood caused by a sewer backup devastated our garden apartment and the basement of our building. My partner Caleb and I woke up to find our home filled with contaminated water, which quickly ruined our flooring, drywall, and most of our personal belongings. The cleanup was overwhelming—Advance Restoration came in to remove the water, dispose of damaged items, and sanitize the space, but the damage was extensive. We’re now working with contractors and a plumber to assess repairs and prevent this from happening again, while my grandfather is helping us navigate the insurance process as the building owner.

One of the scariest moments was realizing our pets were at risk during the flood. Thankfully, we were able to keep them safe, but the situation was a reminder of how quickly things can change and how vulnerable we all were in that moment. The hardest part has been losing so many irreplaceable things. We lost nearly all our clothes, childhood photo albums, and Caleb’s Magic the Gathering card collection, along with his guitar equipment and 3D printer. These items held a lot of sentimental value and were a big part of our daily lives. While we’re grateful for the help we’ve received so far, the costs of restoration and replacing essentials are adding up quickly. We’re also hoping to rebuild our emergency fund to prepare for any unexpected expenses as repairs continue.
