Flood at Hex Hollow Homestead
Donation protected
On July 10th, a flash flood tore through our home in Northeast Ohio. In just 20 minutes, over 4 feet of water filled our basement, destroying everything in its path.
We lost our washer and dryer sets, our entire furnace, drywall, electrical outlets, built-in cabinets and workbenches, and our chest freezer stocked full of food. Every item the water touched is gone.
We also lost part of our livelihood.
We had baby chickens we were raising, incubators, heat lamps, feed, and supplies—all ruined. These weren’t just animals, they were part of our homestead and small business.
Just days before the flood, we faced another kind of loss:
Two of our beloved dogs, King and Khloe, both passed from cancer over the holiday weekend. Our hearts hadn’t even begun to heal before the water came.
This summer, we launched Hex Hollow Homestead, a small backyard farm stand and cottage bakery to help make ends meet. We poured everything we had into it—hope, flour, feathers, and love. But with our home flooded and cleanup just beginning, we’ve had to pause operations for the safety of our family and customers.
To make things harder, our insurance won’t cover any of this. Flood insurance isn’t standard in Ohio, and because we’re not in a flood zone, we couldn’t even qualify for it.
We’re asking for funds to help us recover:
• Professional cleanup and water remediation
• Replacing essential appliances (furnace, washer/dryer, freezer)
• Electrical and drywall repair
• Rebuilding storage and workspace
• Basic supplies to care for our animals and restart our business
We are heartbroken, exhausted, and overwhelmed—but we are still standing. If you feel moved to donate, share, or just send a kind word, we are so grateful.
Thank you for helping us hold on to hope.
With love,
