For as long as most of you have known Kurtis and Whitney Urien, you have known of their desire to have a baby. After several years of trying to have a baby, Kurtis and Whitney learned that they had issues with infertility. After numerous tests and procedures, they were given a less than a one percent chance of conceiving naturally and were told that their best chance of having a baby was to go through In-Vitro-Fertilization (IVF). Faced with the severe costs of IVF, Whitney and Kurtis decided started making plans to eventually go through IVF. After six years of trying, their one percent chance unexpectedly became their 100% miracle, and were thrilled to learn in November 2015 that they were expecting a baby girl due in July 2016.
But on April 9, 2016 the Urien family's world was crushed when they found out their daughter who they had already named Aurora no longer had a heartbeat.
Surrounded by friends and family Aurora Madeline was born on April 11, 2016. When she was delivered the doctor discovered that her umbilical cord had become wrapped tightly around her neck.
Despite their devastation, Kurtis and Whitney began trying for a second child or rainbow baby, a baby that is born after an infant loss such as having stillborn Aurora. After trying naturally, they resumed infertility treatments with their renal endocrinologist. Over the last several months they have completed many unsuccessful IUI cycles and their doctor has reaffirmed that they must go through IVF to conceive.
IVF is incredibly expensive and time consuming. The estimated cost is at least $14,000.00 for one cycle. Whitney and Kurtis realistically need to raise and save $20,000 in case the first IVF cycle is unsuccessful. Another problem is that the longer Kurtis and Whitney wait the more the odds that IVF will work lessen. Kurtis and Whitney have a goal to work hard and save up enough money by the end of 2017, but this is likely not achievable on their own and the longer they wait to try and save enough money the less likely they will be able to have another baby.
Whitney and Kurtis have set up an Etsy shop in an effort help expedite their fund raising goals.
As friends and family who have watched Kurtis and Whitney struggle for so long and have seen them deal with heartbreak after heartbreak we would like to help them meet their rainbow baby as soon as possible.
We are asking everyone to help and donate to Kurtis and Whitney’s rainbow baby fund to help pay for the extremely high expense of IVF. Anything that you can give whether it is large or small donation will make a huge difference in the lives of these two amazing and deserving people. We also ask that you share this page and encourage others to donate as well.
