UPDATE (3/31): Thank you SO much to everyone who has shared or donated to our fundraiser. We are in awe at the amount of support we have received in just a couple of weeks! When I initially set our goal, I set an amount that would cover about 2 and a half months of aid service to start off. Being that my mom's condition is long-term, I have increased our fundraising goal to $20,000 so that we can continue the aid service for longer without having to worry about running out of funds as quickly. Please continue to share within your circles and spread the word! Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!
In June 2023, our beautiful mom, Jacqueline, had a random aspiration that led to a cardiac arrest. As a result of the lack of oxygen to her brain during the cardiac arrest, she suffered severe brain damage and has been back and forth between the hospital and a nursing home ever since. Our mom cannot currently speak or move on her own and is bed bound. Because of this, our family is her primary advocate and works tirelessly every day to ensure she is receiving the best care possible, navigating the frustrations and trauma that come with our healthcare system. Her condition makes her extremely immunocompromised and easily susceptible to infections, which is another reason that ensuring proper and meticulous care is so important. This situation has been a nightmare for our entire family, but we are committed to using any and all resources to help our mamma as best we can.
That being said, we are raising money to hire an aid. This aid would serve as another advocate for our mom and spend time with her during the day when we are unable to be with her. The aid would perform a lot of the tasks we do when we are with our mom, like engaging in conversation, helping with self-care, and performing light physical therapy to help stimulate her brain and keep her busy. Most importantly, the aid would serve as an advocate for our mom and ensure she is receiving all of the necessary care she is supposed to be receiving (for example, being turned in bed every 2 hours). While we were able to find a wonderful aid service, the prices are costly and not covered by insurance. On top of the other medical expenses our family has been faced with, it is unfortunately not an expense we can afford right now.
Our mamma is a force of nature and we love her beyond words and will do anything and everything we can to help her. If you have the means, our family would appreciate anything you can donate. Our goal is currently set at $12,000 but the more money we raise, the longer we can utilize the service for. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this link within your circles to get the word out.
Thank you so much!
-Ashley, Sara, Julia, and Romi
