Help Us Raise Legal Fees to Protect Our 93-Year-Old Mother

Donation protected
We are five of seven children of our 93-year-old mother, Angelita.

Our mother has had dementia for 7 years now and is currently in a very vulnerable stage of her life. Our mom has always been deeply connected to her children and grandchildren. She regularly called us, answered her telephone, and happily welcomed us into her home. The five of us visited her on a regular basis, helped with her healthcare needs, and spent meaningful time with her. Family has always been central to her life.

On September 10th 2025, two of our sisters abruptly cut off contact between our mother and the rest of our family. This was done without any communication or explanation to the family. Since this date, both sisters have kept our mom isolated. They have proceeded to:

  • Change the locks on our moms home
  • Disabled her telephone by turning off the ringer, preventing her from hearing/ receiving calls or voicemails.
  • Diverted her personal mail to one sister’s home
  • Took control of her finances
  • Deny other family members from visiting her

Each time we attempt to visit, the door goes unanswered, even though we know she is home, or it is slammed in our faces. To ensure she is safe, we have had to rely on the police department several times to conduct wellness checks.

On December 5, 2025, while isolated and under the care of these two sisters, our mother fell and broke her hip. It was later confirmed our mother was left alone during the time she fell. These sisters did not inform the rest of us siblings until several hours later, by which time our mother was already being prepared for surgery. At 93 years old, this was a terrifying and painful experience for her, as she had been left lying on the floor with a broken hip before she was finally found. While our mother was undergoing surgery, one of these sisters took that time to move into her home.

The last time we were able to see our mother was December 12, 2025 when she had returned home from the hospital. During that visit, she was overwhelmed with emotion and overjoyed to be reunited with her family. That was the last time we were allowed to see her.

We are devastated that our mother is being isolated and emotionally manipulated. At 93, and living with dementia, she deserves protection, and the love of her family who long to see her. Five of us children have united in seeking conservatorship of our mother. We want to ensure that her care is legally overseen and that decisions are made in her best interest.

We have an upcoming court date in early June and are in urgent need of funds to retain an attorney experienced in conservatorship and elder abuse law. We have taken initial steps in filing a petition for appointment of conservatorship, as well as various required supplemental court forms. To date we have spent over $10,000, and we're just at the beginning of this process. We anticipate substantial additional costs moving forward.

This is not about family conflict. It is about ensuring our mother’s safety, well-being, and connection to all of her family who loves her. If you are able to donate, we are forever grateful. Please know, every contribution helps us stand up for our mother's dignity, safety, and right to connection. You can also help us by sharing this fundraiser. Maybe you know someone who has been through this nightmare, and can relate, or maybe you yourself have been through this. And most importantly, we appreciate your prayers for our mother, and the family who is trying hard to right this wrong.

Thank you for supporting our family during this incredibly painful time.
