HELP US RAISE FUNDS FOR MARIE’S OVERWHELMING MEDICAL BILLS
Donation protected
For the first time in the 38 years that Marie Marcan has worked at the William Alanson White Institute, she has been taken ill and is absent from work. It was a jolt not to be greeted by her when we returned to the office after the summer, and it’s upsetting to find out that she has been in the hospital.
For those who are new to the Institute, Marie is the Housekeeper who is present every morning. To those of us who have been here longer, we know her to be one of the very special people who give WAWI its singular personality: quirky, lively, generous, and caring.
For almost four decades, Marie has been on the job starting early in the morning. She sets up meetings and events, sees that there are chairs, tables, coffee, tea, and anything else that’s needed. She cleans up the messes, sweeps the front stairs and sidewalks, polishes (and moves!) furniture, makes coffee every morning, and reminds us to check our calendars to prepare for tomorrow’s happenings. When there’s a special event, Marie becomes the Head Caterer. No one can lay out a platter or decorate a table with more panache. Around the holidays, Marie is the unsung hero of our Holiday Party. And, importantly, starting around mid-November every year, she switches from humming Czech folk songs to serenading us with Christmas carols…
We want to help with the overwhelming medical costs incurred during her illness. Since she has been a part-time employee during her years at the Institute, Marie doesn’t have the medical benefits that come with full-time employment. So, we’re asking you to join us.
Please help cover the growing medical bills that Medicare doesn’t cover for her. And although your contribution is not tax-deductible, every donation will go directly to Marie.
THANK YOU FOR CONTRIBUTING AND PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD.
