Help Us Raise Funds for Desiree’s 2 Children

Yesterday, my sister Desiree was driving home from the grocery store around 7pm. She was 5 minutes from her home, following the traffic lights, when a car ran their light and clipped the back end of her 4Runner which sent her and her passenger tumbling. My sister didn’t survive.

I can barely find the words to describe the overwhelm I’m/we’re feeling. My sister and I just lost our mother last summer, end of June, 2023. Now, barely 7 months later I’m grieving the shocking and unexpected loss of my sister. As I type, I am aware I am currently, actively in shock, but I have to DO something. All I know to do right now is to try and take action so I’m here, mere hours later - trying to help in any way I can from 2,000 miles away.

When my father called me last night, my second question after "what happened?" was “were the kids in the car?” He said, “no” which did very little to alleviate the heartbreak, but was at least something.

My sister always dreamed of being a mom. She became pregnant with twins, much to her delight, in 2016. When they were about 2-3 months old, their biological father flaked and disappeared from their lives. (They are going to be 7 next month and, for their privacy, I’ve refrained from sharing more recent photos.)

To support herself, as a single mother to twins, she was able to create a one woman business cleaning houses and Air BnB’s. There are no savings - there is nothing. She hustled as best she could to earn income and did her best to spoil her babies - they truly were her WORLD.

I live thousands of miles away and am on pins and needles and I brace myself for these next steps. I feel overwhelmed and absolutely powerless at this moment, but what I do know is: we need money to support my niece and nephew through this horrific loss. What’s left of our family doesn’t have excess resources to adapt to this new reality. It is daunting and heartbreaking to even conceive of life without her. I never saw this coming. No one does.
