Continuing into 2026
The work from LT Ranch continues to develop beyond the residency itself.
In 2026, we were delighted to be involved in an intertidal exhibition event at Hilbre Island, Liverpool, with regular Ranch collaborator Meagan Icke of Tool/Toy Projects. This provided another opportunity to share work and ideas that originated at LT Ranch with audiences in a very different landscape.
This year we were also warmly welcomed by local and regional museum representatives and our local councillor in Tauragnai. One of the works created during the residency, Manami Eguchi’s Studies of the Lithuanian Landscape, was selected for local exhibition during the Žolinė (Grass Festival), helping to reconnect LT Ranch with the surrounding community.
We are now preparing our LT Ranch 2026 catalogue, continuing our tradition of producing a self-made publication documenting each year’s residency. Participants contribute images and reflections on their ideas and creative processes, alongside photographs, recipes and other fragments from the shared experience.
We would like to provide physical copies to participants, trustees and supporters, and we are seeking help towards the cost of printing this year’s publication.
Looking after the Ranch
Alongside the catalogue, we are also seeking support for the ongoing repair and maintenance of the site.
LT Ranch is situated in a remote rural landscape in north-eastern Lithuania, adjacent to the Aukštaitija National Park and close to Lake Tauragnas. We make extensive use of existing and found structures, adapting and reusing them to accommodate the summer residencies.
The changing climate and increasingly unpredictable weather have made maintaining the site more difficult. Strong winds and storms have damaged roofs, trees and temporary structures, while repeated harsh winters and extreme weather have increased the need for ongoing repairs.
Over the years, our temporary making shelter near the house has been damaged, bent and repaired several times. We have also had to clear fallen trees and carry out repairs to roofs and other structures following severe weather.
We try to keep costs as low as possible, reuse materials wherever we can and work with local help. This approach is an important part of LT Ranch’s ethos, but the costs of maintaining a remote site continue to increase.
Why LT Ranch matters
Since LT Ranch began, our aim has been to provide:
- Alternative educational opportunities for young people
- Access to nature and wildlife
- Opportunities to learn about sustainability, repair and making
- The maintenance and reuse of existing spaces and structures
- Connections with local communities and craftspeople
- A space for people from different backgrounds and disciplines to learn from one another
The Ranch is a communal making and living space. People arrive from different places and often have never met before, then spend time living, making, cooking and working together. The relationships, ideas and experiences that emerge from these encounters can stay with participants for years.
We work hard to keep the residency accessible and to avoid increasing participant contributions wherever possible. However, the reality of maintaining the site, responding to increasingly challenging weather and producing our annual publication means that we need support.
Any contribution, however small, would be greatly appreciated.
Your support will help us produce the LT Ranch 2026 catalogue, carry out essential repairs and maintenance, and continue providing this unique space for creative exchange, learning and making.
Thank you for supporting LT Ranch and helping us keep this small, independent project going.
With gratitude,
Kristina Kotov
