Dear Friends and Fellow Animal Lovers,

At CollieflowerCottage, nestled in the Southern Uplands of Scotland, we’re passionate about rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned and neglected animals.

Recently, we've seen a sharp rise in the number of chickens and ducks needing urgent care due to abandonment or removal from abusive situations. To address this growing issue, we're launching a GoFundMe campaign to raise £1,000 for the construction of three temporary foster coops, providing safe and comfortable shelter for these vulnerable birds.

The Growing Crisis in Scotland

Keeping backyard chickens and ducks is becoming more popular across Scotland. However, when circumstances change—such as financial hardship, illness, or lack of knowledge about proper care—many of these birds face abandonment or neglect. At present facilities at rescue centres are limited and housing birds in busy environments designed for dogs and cats is stressful for the birds and expensive for charities. We aim to help alleviate some of that pressure by offering a safe, healthy space for birds to be fostered and begin their rehoming journey.

Why Temporary Foster Coops Matter

Providing temporary foster homes is crucial for several reasons:

Immediate Shelter: Rescued birds need a safe environment to recover from trauma and regain their physics health.

Rehabilitation from Neglect and Abuse: A nurturing space helps them heal physically and emotionally, rebuilding trust in humans and preparing to move on to their forever homes.

Our Plan

Construct Three Temporary Foster Coops: Designed to comfortably house multiple birds, with proper ventilation, nesting areas, and protection from predators.

Assist Rehoming Efforts: Prepare the birds to move on to their permanent, loving homes through socialisation and proper care.
