Chris and I are asking for some help for our Izzy girl!
Anyone who knows us can confirm two specific things about us;
1. We never ask for help. We are very much a couple who live by the "we'll figure it out" motto.
2. We are typical millennials who consider our dogs our babies and would do anything for them.
With that being said, our Izzy girl is not doing well. As of right now we don't have many answers but are willing to do whatever it takes to get answers and get her home.
Iz is still a young pup. We just celebrated her 4th birthday on August 7th. As far as we were concerned, she was happy and healthy. Running around and playing with Loki, swimming in the lake and attempting to hunt down her prey (squirrels) on our nightly walks. At night she will lay on Chris' chest and give him kisses before bed until he says "okay, that's enough" - she's such a lover.
Where it all changed...
We took a much-needed vacation to the lake house a couple weeks ago. Both dogs came with us, of course. While we were there, we noticed that whenever she took a nap or would wake up in the morning there was a small puddle of urine under her. Other than that, she seemed just as happy and healthy as can be. We knew we needed to make an appointment with our vet for a potential UTI.
Thursday we finally saw the vet and she did not seem too concerned. Izzy's urine was a little diluted, so they took some precautionary blood work to be sure there was nothing serious going on. The vet mentioned that this is a common thing that happens to female dogs around this age as her hormones are changing and she probably just needs a hormonal medication until her body figures it out. We were waiting to get the lab results back before putting Iz on any kind of treatment plan...
Friday afternoon I had just pulled in the driveway when the vet called with those results. She told me that she recommends we take Izzy to the ER ASAP. Her lab results came back 10x what they should be, and her kidneys are not doing well.
I walked inside, told Chris and we immediately packed Izzy into the car and headed to Fishers. They took her back, and we waited in the waiting room for 2/2.5 hours before we were finally taken back to a room to talk with the doctor. She didn't have good news. She gave us a couple potential diagnoses which neither were easy to hear or consider. With that, they needed to keep her in the ICU for the weekend. Not only did we get terrible news about our little girl, but we have to leave her overnight, all weekend, with people she doesn't know, and animals she has never met.
All we can think about is how scared she probably is and confused why we show up to say hi just to turn around and leave her there again.
Izzy still has at least four more nights in the ICU. Thankfully we are able to go visit her and see her smiling face as we sit there and bawl thinking about what we could be in for.
As of right now, we are sitting on $12k in medical bills. She still has at least until Wednesday and two specialists to see. As I mentioned, we still have no answers, but we are beside ourselves just sitting around waiting to hear a diagnosis.
I wanted to keep this short and to the point, but I also want to express how influential Iz has been for Chris. She came into his life at one of the most vulnerable times in his life. She has been there since day ONE and has been his best friend ever since. Izzy is the most lovable, smart, tough, and loyal pup I've ever seen. It is absolutely impossible not to love her.
This is something that was extremely unexpected for us and would really appreciate any and all help provided. I did want to put this on a more official platform, if you would prefer venmo, zelle, cashapp, etc. I can provide those as well.
Hopefully we receive answers soon so the google searches and thought of the worst-case scenario can be erased from our brains.
