I'm Mandy McCasland, and I'm raising funds for my family to start Bowed Oak SCL LLC, where we will provide 1-1 care for adults with complex developmental needs.

My brother Charlie lived in a group home that was investigated multiple times. He was meant to get 1-to-1 care, but often, that did not happen. We knew something had to change, so in September of 2022, we moved Charlie into his own home with dedicated 1-1 support. We've been able to provide the consistency and attention he needs ever since, and Charlie has absolutely blossomed in this environment. We have long wanted to do the same for others, and we now have that chance!

We've spent the past year building Bowed Oak SCL from the ground up: We are LLC incorporated, with an EIN and NPI secured. Staff have been background checked, hired, and in-training. Case manager support is in place, and our second home is ready to rent in March. We've cleared nearly every regulatory hurdle to become a Supported Community Living (SCL) agency--the only issue is the Medicaid reimbursement timeline.

Insurance reimburses 45-90 days after services begin. We can cover startup costs on credit, but not staff salaries. Without staff, there is no way to do this.

We are asking for about 60 days of bridge funding to pay our staff while we wait for Medicaid reimbursement. Every dollar goes directly to ensuring two adults with complex developmental needs get the dignified, consistent, one-on-one care they deserve. My family are keeping costs as low as possible by providing 1-1 overnight and weekend care themselves without pay.
