On February 24, 2026, the Arlington Zoning Board of Appeals approved a Special Permit allowing Boston Gas to:
- Clear-cut 16,000 sq ft of wooded land at 307 Washington Str
- Build a new, industrial, gas facility in an R1 residential district
- Move forward despite less damaging alternatives
This decision allows the removal of mature oaks and the destruction of wildlife habitat in the Turkey Hill area. Many residents believe the project does not meet the required Special Permit standards and that less harmful alternatives were not adequately considered.
See more details on the petition page, which now serves as the central hub for next steps and community actions.
There are still legal options available. Direct abutters and supporters are pursuing an appeal and other legal avenues to challenge this decision and reduce its impacts. Legal action requires funding. Your donation will help cover legal fees.
If you care about minimizing environmental damage and protecting mature trees in Arlington, please consider supporting this effort.
Every contribution helps! Thank you!
Any unused funds will be refunded or donated to our local amazing Newhouse Wildlife Rescue - that helps and saves countless animals every day: NewhouseWildlifeRescue.org
