Help us protect the sea turtles in Drake Bay, Costa Rica

İHola! My name's Rob and I'm originally from the UK.

Since 2009, I've been working with the community in Drake Bay to protect the sea turtles from illegal egg poaching. For years, we were winning the battle against the poachers and we rarely lost more than 10% of the nests each year; but, over the last few seasons the poachers have increased in number and now live right on the beach, giving them direct access to the turtle nests. Their illegal operation has been very successful and we're now losing 50% of the nests every night. While we are reaching out to the police and other authorities for help, we desperately need additional resources to give us a fighting chance to save the turtles.

With a salary fund, we could pay local patrol leaders to do additional patrols and cover more sectors of the beach. With a consumables and equipment fund, we could buy bags, headlamps, clothes and radios to improve our effectiveness. With a materials budget we could make repairs and improve facilities to attract more volunteers, which in turn would allow the project to become more sustainable and cover its costs.

We know that if we lose the turtles, they will never come back to Drake Bay. If there is anything you could spare to help us fight the battle against the poachers, you can count on our commitment to follow through and get boots on the beach at night and protect their irreplaceable nesting habitat.
