A little bit of help for our family
This is something I never imagined I would have to write.
Dan did have life insurance, which specifically covered racing, and he was always absolutely adamant that if he was going to race, he needed to make sure his family would be looked after. It was something he took very seriously.
Unfortunately, following Dan’s death, we have been informed that there are circumstances which means his life insurance will not provide the financial support we had expected. At the moment, we are facing a significant financial uncertainty as we try to understand exactly where we stand.
I am now facing something I never imagined—trying to navigate life without my husband, raising our two young children as a single mum, while also carrying the huge financial worry of potentially losing our forever home.
Our home is where Dan and I built our life together. It is where Joey and Phoebe have grown up, where so many of our memories were made, and the thought of losing it is something I can’t even begin to put into words.
I hate having to ask for help, but I also know that Dan would want me to do everything I possibly can to protect the life we built for our children.
If you are able to donate to our GoFundMe, no matter how big or small, it would mean more to me than I can ever explain. If you can’t donate, simply sharing the fundraiser would help us enormously.
I know times are difficult for everyone, and I don’t take a single donation or share for granted.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to support me, Joey and Phoebe through the most horrific time of our lives. Your kindness is helping us more than you will ever know.
Helayna, Joey and Phoebe x
***** Update *****
A little update
Things are starting to look a little more positive, and I honestly cannot put into words how much that means to me.
In an ideal world, Dan’s life insurance should have meant that our mortgage was paid off and that I could keep our home without having to worry about the financial side of things. Sadly, due to the circumstances surrounding his death and the technicalities of the policy, that hasn’t happened.
But thanks to the incredible support, donations and advice I have received, it is now looking possible for me to secure a mortgage myself and keep the home Dan and I built for our children. I will need to be very careful with our finances and make sure every penny is managed sensibly, but this is something I honestly didn’t know would be possible a short time ago.
I also want to say how incredibly grateful I am to everyone who supported our previous GoFundMe. That money gave me some immediate security and helped enormously with the ongoing bills at a time when our whole world had been turned upside down.
The response to this GoFundMe has completely overwhelmed me. I never imagined I would have to ask for help like this. I have always been a strong, independent and very proud person, and asking for financial help has been incredibly difficult. At times, it has honestly felt like I was becoming a beggar or a charity case.
But everyone has completely changed the way I feel about that. You haven’t made me feel like a charity case — you have made me feel supported, loved and surrounded by people who genuinely want to help me and my children.
I am so overwhelmed that everyone has come together to give our family some of the financial security that I had hoped the insurance would provide.
I am also taking professional financial and legal advice to make sure I understand our options and make the best decisions for Joey and Phoebe.
There is still a long way to go, but for the first time in a while, things are starting to feel possible and positive.
Thank you to every single person who has donated, shared the fundraiser, offered advice, sent a message or simply thought of us.
You have helped turn something that felt impossible into something that now feels possible. For me, Joey and Phoebe, that means absolutely everything.
Thank you. Truly.
