Help publish our next poetry chapbook. We are turning to fans of the press and especially of Holly Wren Spaulding
to help launch her collection, Between Us
, into the world. For any contribution of $16 ($26 for international) and above, we will send you a copy of the chapbook with our thanks (we’re hoping by mid-November)
(NOTE:you will need to supply us with your mailing address by replying to our thank you email when you receive it, as gofundme does not give us those details for privacy reasons. If you don't provide an address, we will assume you simply want to support the cause. Thank you!)
When Holly sent her latest manuscript to us last spring, we leapt at the opportunity to follow her 2020 book, Familiars, with an intimate and timely collection written during the early days of the pandemic. Between Us is Holly's fourth book with our press and we're excited to share this new work with you.
In Between Us, Holly Wren Spaulding offers the salvation of beauty amidst sorrow for who and what has been lost in recent years.
"Each poem in Holly Wren Spaulding’s exquisite new collection, Between Us, is an offering of flowers—some cut from the garden, others gathered wild from a field; some intricately arranged, others a single stem placed in a vase on the windowsill, the bedside table. All, however, afford us the pleasure of care having been taken, of beauty having been salvaged amid desolation, and shared. To read these poems is to be reminded of the consolations always available to us, if only we take the time to notice, as Holly has, with an eye both clear and kind, capable of seeing things as they are around and between us, and of giving them their due attention, due reverence. In other words, they show us how to be and how to bask--in the world, and in our lives—even and especially as they threaten to come to end. “This means we have not forsaken / what exists between us.” Pure loveliness. An artistic as well as an existential achievement.”

Alice Greene & Co. is an independent press based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We publish poetry books that focus on the environment and sense of place. We strive to create beautiful and intimate books. The “& Co.” expresses the many collaborators and helpers who contribute their efforts and works to make the books as excellent and special as possible: editors, book designers, illustrators, photographers, artists, technology wizards.
The primary goal of this fundraiser is to finance the printing. We plan to send the finished files to the printer by mid-October and hope to have books in hand in mid-November, at which point supporters will receive their copies, and the chapbook will be for sale to the public.
If we raise money beyond the cost of printing, we would use that to help pay our collaborators. Should we be so fortunate to raise even more money, that will make it easier for us to work on books for emerging authors, as well as paying for expenses such as the website and publishing software.
