Help us plant 10,000 Native Trees in Peru's Andes

Every year since 2007, Amazonas Explorer has donated 1% of its turnover to help plant native Queuña trees in the Lares watershed, high in the Andes above the Sacred Valley of the Incas, near Cusco  / Machu Picchu.

2020-1 was the year we were to plant our 1 millionth tree but Covid19 all but put a stop on travel to Peru and our revenues have consequently plummeted.

So this year,  we are appealing to you all, our dear friends from around the world, to help us raise enough to sponsor 1 full day of reforestation and plant at least 10,000 trees, hopefully many more.

1 tree, planted on your behalf, costs just $1 / £0.75

Many communities in the Lares valley rely on tourism to supplement their living  yet have not seen a tourist since March 2020.

What could be a better Christmas present than donating some trees, offsetting some carbon emissions, helping improve the water retention and  water quality for a local community in the Andes and providing some much needed employment?

If you’re thinking about giving the gift of trees this Christmas, either for yourself or for a loved one, you can decide which category you would like below:

1 - 20 Trees - Receive quarterly updates from the communities about how your contribution has helped

21-100 Trees - Receive an e-certificate of giving, as well as quarterly updates from the communities about how your contribution has helped.

101-250 Trees - Receive an e-photobook of the trees being planted + all rewards from 1-100 trees.

251-1000 Trees - Receive a personal video of your tree as it is planted + all rewards from 1 - 250

1001+ Trees - Receive a free visit to your tree the next time you visit Cusco + all other rewards.

Please contact with evidence of your donation.

How it works:

Working with the most excellent NGO all money raised will be transferred directly to Cusco, Peru where in coordination with a local community, saplings will be locally sourced and a  traditional "Faena/Ayni" will be called. This ancient Andean tradition will bring all the locals in the area together to volunteer for a full day of tree planting.

Up to 250 locals will turn up and as long as they can carry a tree, they'll earn a symbolic day's pay and get a hot lunch and together with Ecoan and Amazonas Explorer staff will plant between 10 and 25,000 trees in one big day of hard but rewarding work.

The event will be part of ECOAN's annual Queuña Raymi  tree planting festival which started in early December 2021 and will go right through to early March 2021 involving over 8000 locals from 19 different communities all over the Andes as they aim to plant 500,000 trees in one season.

It is an incredible feat of logistics that is a beauty to watch and one Amazonas Explorer is proud to have become part of.

Please donate what you can and we'll keep you updated how it goes and post photos of your trees being planted as soon as we can.

Thank you all so much for your help.
