About Carbon Conversations TO
Carbon Conversations TO (CCTO) is a grassroots group in Toronto with a mission to normalize climate action. Our group facilitates peer-led programs that help community members move from hopelessness and apathy to collective action. Through facilitated exercises, reflections and games, participants learn to cope with climate distress, build a new awareness of themselves, grow their community of support and take action for the issues they care about most.
This GivingTuesday, we're raising funds to pilot our newest climate program: Living With the Climate Crisis (LWCC). This program was created by Ro Randall, Rebecca Nestor and Daniela Fernandez-Catherall, who are all psychological practitioners that have been involved in the climate movement for many years and brings a unique psychology-informed perspective on climate education.
About the project: Living With the Climate Crisis Pilot
Living With the Climate Crisis differs from our flagship program Climate Change and You in that it focuses on the importance of collective action vs. individual action in response to climate change. So, rather than focusing only on carbon footprint reduction, LWCC offers a wide range of other collective actions people can take to make a difference in their community.
Living With the Climate crisis is an immersive program with over 20 hours of training that offers a holistic way for people to:
- Do a deep-dive on climate change and process their thoughts and feelings about it.
- Find out where they fit in the ecosystem of climate action.
- Learn to communicate with empathy and skill about the crisis.
- Share ways to still find meaning and joy in the precarious world we live in.
It's different than other climate programs because it is rooted behaviour change and psychology. In other words, in addition to offering the practical "climate 101" information, it also offers insights on how to address the hidden psychological barriers that may be present in our own or others' capacity to act.
Through intentional, supportive and vulnerable facilitated conversations, this program was designed to support people to build resilience, find community, and resource themselves to contribute to the movement without burning out.
What your donation can do
Typically, we charge participant fees to cover costs of running our events. However, we acknowledge it makes our programs less accessible to those who might be keen to participate but have lower incomes or aren't able to afford the costs. We are raising funds so we can offer this pilot program completely free of charge for participants.
Your donation goes a long way! For example:
$ 25 Covers the cost of printing a program handbook and workbook for 1 participant
$ 50 Covers a facilitator's compensation for 1 hour (total program is 20 hours)
$ 100 Covers costs for booking a meeting room for 2 hours (total program is 20 hours)
$ 275 Covers one participant's entry fee
We are so grateful for your generosity in fostering a movement of care for people and our planet.
