Help us pay for probate attorney for grandma

Greetings and a huge Thank You to all who donated over the past year to my family’s cause. Updating you all on our journey this past year, my grandmother took a turn for the worst, she is still in probate with the courts for another year and needs help keeping her bills and house payment’s afloat. Sherry has suffered a minor stroke and caught Covid this past winter. Over the last year she lost the use of her legs and she lost the swallow function in her throat, she is getting a tube put into her stomach so she can eat. Her dementia has increased significantly, especially in the evenings. She still remembers the past, names, numbers locations, wants and needs but her short term is almost gone. We need help, please share this post, donate, even the smallest amount is deeply appreciated, her family want her to come home soon. We need help with her house bills and the rest of the attorney fees. Anything helps, thank you and god bless!

Hi my name is Ashley, I am fundraising for my grandmother and adopted mother, she is currently in a state of crisis as am I.

 

A little over a 2 years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with early onset dementia, she also has irritable bow syndrome diverticulitis, diabetes and is a fall risk. 

 

My grandfather Trent retired from his job at age 73 even though he wanted to continue working because he had spent all of his retirement savings on helping other people who could not and would not pay them back. Trent spent most of his life helping others, his children his friends, his family, their friends. He was a giving man to the point where he could not save any money for his own retirement to spend with his wife.

 

They owned a lovely cabin in big bear city, about three years ago Sherry‘s oldest daughter Tracii, a drug addict, who is in and out of jail constantly moved in with them out of Desperation because she had no one else to help her. This enable Tracii to steal from them, sell drugs and do drugs under their roof, abuse them, and neglect them. She was hired as IHSS for Sherry Scott, where she proceeded to collect the checks and let my grandma Sherry deteriorate. When my grandfather Trent noticed what was happening he retired and stayed home to take care of his wife.

Tracii proceeded to keep stealing from them, as well as being thrown in and out of jail multiple times, did drugs, and used her squatters rights to continue coming back to the house.

 

In September 2021 my grandmother Sherry suffered a stroke and was hospitalized, Trent spent all $6000 of his savings to drive on and off the mountain every day to see her, take care of her and pay for her medical cost.

 

Upon returning home in October, Tracii shows up after being released from jail, and brought Covid into their house, where Sherry contracted Covid, and was hospitalized once again. And this time Trent suffered a massive heart attack and was also hospitalized. Tracii took that opportunity to steal everything of value out of the house and try to take over their assets including their livelihoods, telling the doctors to keep them in the hospital because she would not take care of them or allow them back in the house.

 

Luckily I was able to discharge my grandmother from the hospital once she was better, and I took her to see Trent one last time while he was in the hospital. It was bittersweet and terribly sad.

 

It was during this time that Trent told me he wanted me to have power of attorney over both of them because he was afraid, 1. Something might happen to him & 2. Tracii might do something horrible to them both.

 

About a week later, Trent passed away, upon his death my grandmother refused to go back to the house in Big Bear because there was no one to take care of her and the memories of her and her husband‘s dream home was too painful to go back to. The IHSS worker and nurse that I had hired to take care of her while Trent was in the hospital, quit the day that Tracii showed up, which was two days before he passed. Sherry Scott was alone in the house for a whole 24 hours because Tracii was arrested day before his death for drugs and theft.

 

We had my grandmother for a week before we realized that we were unable to take care of her in our small apartment. She ended up hospitalized and put in a nursing care home until we are able to buy a house fit for her needs.

 

A little bit about that situation, we have a bathroom and a shower on the second story of our apartment, Sherry cannot do stairs, we have a two bedroom apartment where both bedrooms are upstairs, she was unable to make it upstairs. Both me and my fiancé work full-time and aren’t able to watch her round the clock, I have an autistic daughter who has therapy five days a week , also and I am currently pregnant with my second child. I suffered a miscarriage in January from all the stress that my grandfather‘s death and Tracii‘s drama put on our lives. When my grandfather Trent died everything changed. there was no one to take care of the house, there was no one to care for my grandmother, nobody knew the extent of my grandmothers psychological and physical disabilities. They sheltered me from the stress so that I could get through college, which I was successful at because of them, Cal State Fullerton Class of spring 2021, I receive my bachelors degree, all thanks to my grandparents with their support and love.

 

Update on Sherry,

She is doing wonderful in the nursing home now. She’s seen the right doctors and is able to have the care that she needs and was unable to get in a small town far away from the city like Big Bear. She’s on the right medication, she’s been extremely sound of mine, and instead of being a fall risk every night, she only falls maybe once every couple weeks now. She is getting stronger with physical therapy and losing a lot of weight from healthy food and not being fed junk food every other day .

 

Now here’s the part where we need your help.

 

My fiancé lost his job due to Covid in December, I do not make enough at my job to cover even our bills right now sadly. My grandfather Trent’s name was on the house, when we found the deed we realize that my grandmother Sherry‘s name was not on the house. For reasons we don’t know why, he did not add her name to the house when they bought the house, but in his will, he left everything to her. My best guess is that he was just too lazy to do the paperwork . Which wouldn’t surprise me of my grandfather Trent , god rest his soul, he was an active man but he hated paperwork, almost as much as he hated the hospital and doctors. My grandmother Sherry wants to sell the house so that she can buy a nice little house down here where we can all be together and I can hire 24 hour nursing care for her through the state.

 

Her direct wishes are, “I just wanna spend the last of my days with you Ashley, my granddaughter Guinevere, the new baby and my son-in-law Robert. I don’t wanna stay with anyone foreign, I just want to be with you”

 

Unfortunately we had to put the house into probate, and the probate attorney is going to cost us $11,500, that’s not including all the court fees, around $3,000 that we will have to pay between now and then. 

We are already paying her nursing care fees as well as our own bills and now on top of that maintaining the house in Big Bear while it sits in probate. Please anybody help us, I don’t normally ask for help and I know my grandparents would be completely ashamed of me for asking for help, this is not some thing they asked for ever, they would never except charity from anybody unless they were giving it. But now is the time for them to receive.

 

After paying for my grandfathers funeral cost all of our savings is gone.

 

We need help paying for the probate attorney, it’s going to take about eight months to get the house out of probate, everything of value inside of it was stolen by Tracii so there’s no money to be made off of the assets anymore.

 

Please anybody, if you’re reading this, my grandmother adopted me when I was abandon as a child by Tracii, my grandparents took me in when nobody wanted me and took care of me. It’s my turn to take care of her and keep her safe like she kept me safe from Tracii. I just want to spend the last years my grandmother has left with her. Right now financially I can’t do that. Please help us pay for this attorney, i’m not asking for help for any of the nursing fees or to buy a house or for gas driving back-and-forth to see her every day. This is the one thing I need help with, maybe if I pay him upfront he’ll get this done faster so I can have more time with my grandmother. She doesn’t mind the nursing home, but every time I see her she says she just wants to be with me, and that’s all I want to . Please help us be a family again.
