Help Us Overcome Vet Debt After Loss
Donation protected
Hey all -
I truly hate to do this, but we’ve been put in a really tough financial position and frankly need the help. My girlfriend Taylor’s 12 year old cat, Prin, had to be taken to the ER three nights ago after spending the afternoon throwing up a bunch, not eating, appearing overly lethargic and generally not acting like herself. After the doctor ran their tests, we were told Prin has developed pyrometra, an infection that meant she had pus build-up and cysts in her uterus, and this needed to be taken care of immediately as the condition is lethal if not handled promptly. The doctors also said she had a low white blood cell count, and a high calcium %.
The surgery cost us around $5600, but we were informed that she most likely would survive it without complications. Taylor and I both thought a good handful of years longer with Prin was worth all the credit debt.
So they operated on Prin two days ago, and the surgery was successful. She needed some assistance and care after the surgery, but the doctors were seeming hopeful that Taylor would be able to pick her up by the next day at some point. We were in high spirits.
Well, the doctors kept her at the hospital overnight, and yesterday morning, Taylor received a call saying that Prin had developed complications through the night and was not doing well. She had sepsis, and her condition was very poor. Ultimately, we had to make the very tough call to put her down, as she was in immense pain and discomfort with little chance of survival.
We are obviously heartbroken and miss her dearly. And on top of it, we are left with a vet bill of all-in about $6500. I’ve had to open two lines of credit just to take on this debt, and it leaves Taylor and I in a tough position financially as we grieve.
If you happen to have any extra cash to throw our way in this time of need, we would be deeply appreciative. This loss has affected many of our friends and family who knew sweet little Prin. Thank you all for your time.
