Hello everyone, my name is Kim Golding, my little brother Kenny, his fiance Katie, and my niece Layah are in immediate need of financial assistance. We live in rural Mendocino County. My brother and Katie are currently facing a huge financial crisis for life-saving medical interventions for Layah who is almost two years old. Layah had been experiencing concerning medical symptoms for over a week. Katie and Kenny had brought her to her pediatric doctor who referred them to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Medical Center ER. Unfortunately, the first several ER visits did not result in diagnosis or treatment and their doctor made them return every time to the ER for specific medical diagnostics. Finally on Monday, September 26th, after persistently asking the ER doctor to test her stool samples, they found that Layah had developed a rare form of Ecoli and HUS which " is a rare but serious disease that affects the kidneys and blood clotting functions of infected people. Infection with HUS causes the destruction of red blood cells, which can then cause kidney failure. HUS occurs as a complication of a diarrheal infection (usually E. coli O157:H7 infection)."

Layah was airlifted to UCSF for immediate treatment in the pediatric intensive care unit where she can receive appropriate care and necessary treatment. We are currently unsure of the treatment prognosis and outcome. Layah had to have a PICC line installed and is receiving blood transfusions and dialysis due to the platelet levels increasing and attacking her kidneys.

Fortunately, Katie and Kenny have been able to stay with her at the bedside taking turns. Both of them are missing out on employment and are facing high medical costs plus a lack of income. The parking alone in SF is $5 per hour. She is expected to need to stay at UCSF for at least a month for ongoing critical treatment.

We are asking our friends, family, and community for any donations to help alleviate the additional stress of finances so they can focus on the treatment and recovery of their sweet baby girl and asking for many prayers and support for our family during these unexpected, challenging, and devastating times.
