Help Us Open the Doors to the Ashawo Cafe and Coworking

Donation protected
Hello everyone! Donations have paused! We would love for you all to continue to share and donate when you can. You can donate more than once AND you can share as many times as needed so we can exceed our goals.

There are some great updates available. During our cultural weekend, our very own Angel Maxine will have her album release listening party at the cafe. So stop by for our opening weekend listen, buy a poster, eat some cake and get to know us.

Remember our doors are open early so that folks can learn about what the cafe is doing and how we plan to continue the legacy of Aequa for our time here.

Follow our pages for the event link. We are looking forward to seeing you next month!

After years of searching, waiting, hoping—and organizing in borrowed rooms, shared offices, and online—the Black S Worker Collective (BSWC-Berlin) is thrilled to announce that we are taking over Aequa's E13 in Berlin this fall!

This new space, OUR space. Will be aptly named The Ashawo Cafe!
A space for everyone across & connected to the Black diaspora. Pushing back against oppression, by Black S Workers.
A place for organizing, healing, creating, and holding each other through the ongoing crises impacting our communities.

For far too long, we’ve made miracles happen without a space of our own. Now we finally have the chance to root ourselves in a homebase that will serve our collective and broader community for years to come.

But we can’t do this without you.

Why We Need Your Support

We’re launching this fundraiser to raise

$35,000

to cover:

  • 6–12 months of rent (to give us financial breathing room at 1050 euro per month)
  • Small renovations and accessibility updates
  • Purchasing equipment left by previous renters desks, kitchen tools, lighting, etc.) Our biggest cost at 14,000
  • Utility bills + ongoing operational needs (around 500 euro per month)
  • Modest stipends for 1–2 community members helping run the space and programs (500-700 euro per month, per person)

All donations will go directly into the BSWC bank account and will be accounted for transparently.

This fundraiser will allow us to focus on programming, build up sustainable revenue through memberships and community events, and keep the space running while we continue to secure long-term funding.

Gratitude & Solidarity

We want to deeply thank our funding partner Mama Cash, whose commitment to grassroots, Black-led organizing has never wavered—especially during this era of budget cuts and the closure of so many feminist spaces across Europe.

We also thank David and Heidi for riding with us through thick and thin, making it possible for us to even dream of a space like this, let alone begin building it.

What This Space Will Offer

  • Membership based co-working and coffee cafe
  • A home for the Black Sex Worker Library
  • A hub for workshops, mutual aid, small art residencies, health outreach, and small performances
  • Meeting space for local and private groups/orgs/businesses
  • Low-cost events, dinners, and gatherings
  • A place to build safety, joy, and our own damn future

Why Now?

Because we’ve waited long enough.
Because we deserve more than survival.
Because Black Sex Workers are architects of culture, care, and resistance—and we need space to thrive.

Your donation—no matter the size—helps us build something lasting.

Help us open the doors to the Ashawo Cafe in Sept of 2025!
Help us stay open.

With love and deep thanks,
The Black Sex Worker Collective
