Hawthorn’s Brood Cooperative is a daring vision of collective and liberatory care. We are three queer, trans and poc healing practitioners with combined skills in ancestrally-rooted plant medicine, spiritual and community herbalism, Ayurveda, Death and Birthing Doula work, Art and Drama Therapy, and somatics. Our Brood met as co-workers in an apothecary that put profit before people and we knew there was a better, more equitable way. The last 2 years, we’ve been dreaming, creating, studying, and working to flesh out how to bring our co-op into this world.

After a successful launch as part of a booth at Christmas Village, we connected with Black Bird Rising – a Black healers collective in Germantown, and discussed ways to collaborate and co-create. We are so grateful and honored to run our apothecary in Black Bird Rising’s retail space on Germantown Ave. This is beyond exciting for us! It’’s the result of hard work, collective care, and community support. We’re excited to have this opportunity and to offer the gift of herbalism to our community!

This is where ya’ll come in! While we’re in the process of applying for a loan to help support our new venture, bureaucratic processes work at their own pace and we unfortunately don’t have the funding between the 3 of us to cover these additional costs. We’re raising $5,555 to help cover insurance, our food license, 2025 taxes, furniture, fixtures and any unexpected costs that could keep us from opening at the end of the month.

We will be holding an opening party in April (Date/Time TBA). Come learn about our collective, meet your neighbors, enjoy some herbal goodies, & soak in the Spring sunshine with us. You’ll catch us at Black Bird Rising sooner than that, as we plan our soft opening for Friday, March 27!
