Help us on Jason's last step for a transplant!

Hello friends,

If you do not know us, we are Jason and Melissa Newton. We have been together since 1997 and have two beautiful children who have grown into responsible adults. We have been truly blessed throughout our years. 2025 has been rough for many reasons. The cause of us needing a little financial help is Jason has a rare genetic cancer and there is a cure! We do not qualify for the many of the resources Georgia provides as we are not in state residents. Here is our story.

On March 26, someone at work told Jason his eyes looked a little yellow. He went to urgent care and had blood work done. By March 29, we still didn't have the results back. The yellowing was worsening. His skin was yellow, and his eyes turned golden. We decided to go to the Tanner ER in Carrollton. They kept us overnight. That morning, they referred us to the City of Hope cancer center in Newnan. On April 1, we learned he had cancer.

Extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

A rare cancer that forms in the bile ducts (tubes) outside the liver.

First hopes were to shrink the cancer down enough to surgically remove the tumors. We began extensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The cancer did get smaller but is still on both sides of his liver. They cannot be surgically removed. Although his liver is healthy and functional, a whole liver transplant is the only cure.

On August 13, we were referred to Emory transplant center in Atlanta. On Sept 17, he will get his third bile duct stent replacement. On Sept 19, he will start radiation along with chemotherapy to prepare him for a whole liver transplant. This will require us to live near Emory for 8 to 12 weeks. After the transplant, he will be on anti-rejection medicine indefinitely.

We have been very fortunate that we have both been able to work up until this point.

As much as we dread doing this, we need a little help and a lot of shares.

Most importantly, we need prayers! Prayers for a smooth surgery and rapid recovery.

We are setting up this GoFundMe to help with medical, lodging costs, and the extra expenses that come along with staying someplace other than home. This will be a process. Any donations that exceed our current need will go towards future medical needs. As we always do, we will pay the generosity and kindness forward .

Thankfully, his insurance has covered almost all of our medical bills. Our deductible is $4,000, and we have set up a payment plan for that through City of Hope. We still owe Tanner $756 and will have plenty of $75 copays.

We will be reimbursed for lodging $100 a day by his health insurance up to $2,000. We have applied to be on the waiting list for the Hope House. At this time, they do not have a spot for us. Lodging expenses are going to exceed the funds we have.

Please, if you can afford to give, give. If you cannot, please share this post and say a prayer. Thank you so much from our family to yours.
