On the recommendation of a local realtor, we moved into a rental property and soon spotted several major concerns; for example, we have lived with a large hole in our window, only masked by deteriorating packing tape, since we moved in last spring and endured several major hurricanes during one of the worst hurricane seasons on record.
Our pleas and written requests to fix the large hole in our window, for our safety and to reduce our high energy bill, were repeatedly ignored.
The house showed new signs of structural damage on a regular basis; the ceiling is cracked and sunken in spots. The windows are audibly cracking; the walls make disturbing sounds; the doors are hard to open; areas are water damaged.
On February 18th, 2025, after we communicated our current financial strain, our landlords gave us written notice to pay February rent in full within three days or vacate the property. While we cannot share more at this time, we need to obtain legal representation ASAP!
While we relocated to safe housing at the beginning of March, we are still facing unavoidable moving and court costs, as well as loss of income from time away from work.
We need immediate financial assistance so we can recover from this traumatic and exhausting experience as we care for ourselves and our pups, engage authentically with and give back to our new community, and pay it forward.
Anything you feel able to contribute, whether that’s a dollar or fifty, a share, a smile, a selfie with your dog or cat or ferret; a paying gig or a referral to a friend, relative, or neighbor who might need my freelance writing, editing, creative consulting, or digital marketing services--it is all valuable and so deeply appreciated by me, my partner, our pups, and our parents, who worry about us from across the country.
Thank you for your time, your empathy, and your commitment to loving and supporting us, and remaining in our lives. We appreciate you more than you know. Let’s keep in touch!
