Ok, so this is the hard bit, when I sit down and write an appealing message for the people who have supported us throughout the years. But first, the good news.
LA Cyclery is moving! After countless false alarms, scares and even an investment into the good ol' basement, we are moving for real this time, but fret not, we are not going far at all, less than 500 feet away, just around the corner from our current spot. This is a big change for us and we are super thrilled and excited about the new space, with a lot more potential for community events, skill shares, group rides, cook offs (that's right we have a kitchen woot woot!), and even the occasional pickup game cause we also have a hoop.
All this to say we're pretty stoked about getting the chance to continue serving the Silver Lake community and of course continuing our mission of creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone, especially our trans, enby, lgbtqia and gender expansive siblings, for at least another 5 years!
The new space is bigger, which is great, and completely empty, which is less great. Right now it's a warehouse in need of lofts, stairs, workbench, and a lot of hours before it can be called a bike shop. We've thrown every resource we have at this and we're still short. So that's the ask.
For those who have been plugged into the shop's shenanigans and those who have heard the whining of dealing with owning a small business in this day and age: apparently that sentiment is very much shared across the board with every small bike shop owner in LA, as we learned recently in the Revolution BTS panel at the Bike Oven last week where we all cried to the same tune about how hard it is to survive as a small bike shop. But the silver lining is always there and will always be there, bikes are not going anywhere, not today, not tomorrow, not ever. This means that we will always need someone who can help us stay on the road and this is where we come in.
Our customers, friends, comrades and riding buddies have always come through and we're sure this time will be no different, community is a powerful thing and we are surrounded by the best one so if this shop has ever been your spot, help us build the next one.
You know the drill, every dollar counts, if you can't donate no shade help us spread the word and even if you only stop for air every once in a while we just want to say a massive thank you to everyone, cause this has been an amazing ride and we couldn't be here without you. Can't wait to see what the next stretch of road has in store for us.
Also we will be celebrating our move with a fundraiser party with our friends from Bikepacking Roots on August 8th. So mark your calendars and come party with us because we still have a bike shop for 5 more years!
